What is an EMS bus Gateway?

The BBQKees EMS bus Gateways are a plug-and-play solution allowing your home automation system to communicate directly with your EMS-equipped boiler or heat pump.

An EMS Gateway is a small device that has a circuit board inside with lots of components, but the most important ones are an EMS communication interface which is connected to an ESP32 microcontroller chip. The ESP32 is soldered on the board as a module and is running the EMS-ESP firmware. The ‘firmware’ is the software for the microcontroller. The ESP32 module provides all the processing power, but also contains the WiFi interface. The E32 V2 Gateway furthermore has a LAN chip connected to the same ESP32 module in order to provide a LAN interface as well.

How to setup the Gateway

On the next page we will explain how the Gateway works and then we will start setting up the Gateway. First we will connect it to the boiler or heat pump, adjust some of the settings and then connect it your home automation.
