EMS interface boards

Introduction

The EMS interface boards are compatible with all EMS versions like EMS, EMS+ and Heatronic. They a 3,3V-5V compatible interface for interfacing with a standard UART (serial port) of a microcontroller like the Arduino and the ESP8266.

The latest version V3.1 looks like this:

And older versions have similar features but a different design:

The information in this section is for all versions of the board, even the ‘old’ ones. If you have an old version like the V0.9 board, and it still works fine, there is no need to upgrade to a newer version.

Attention

Although the interface board was designed with care, connecting anything to it is at your own risk. When connected incorrectly you may damage the EMS heat source, create short circuits, etc. Furthermore lots of the ESP32 and other development boards have absolutely HORRIBLE RF performance. This means they may work fine, but unknowingly you are injecting lots of noise generated by these boards directly into the USB port and also the EMS bus. The interface boards adhere to all regulations and bear the CE mark, but this applies only to the interface board. Any power supply, USB cable or port or ESP dev board you connect to it may not be compliant with CE regulations. If you want to be safe, get an EMS Gateway instead.
